Uninstall

This page describes how to remove The Racing System from your computer.  It assumes are you using Windows (e.g. NT, Windows 98, Windows 95, XP). If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Two manual steps are necessary

There are two things which are not handled by the automatic uninstall and which must be done manually.  These items are detailed below and procedures for removing them are included in the instructions listed below.

  1. The database file (race.db) is normally read-only when not in use and this flag must be turned off for the full uninstall to work.
  2. The ODBC DSN is not removed.  If you wish to remove it, this must be done before the uninstall is run.

The following sections contain the procedures to fully remove The Racing System from your computer.  An overview of the procedure is provided as well as detailed step-by-step instructions on how to carry out this procedure.

Overview

Step by step instructions

  1. Shut down any running copies of The Racing System.  In fact, we recommend restarting Windows.
  2. Shut down any other applications.  The less software you are running, the better from an uninstall point of view.
  1. Start Windows Explorer (for Windows 95, 98, XP) or NT Explorer (for NT).
  2. Select the directory where you installed The Racing System.  The default installation directory is  c:\Program Files\DVL Software Limited\The Racing System.
  3. If you didn't install to the default directory, then the easiest way to locate the race.db file is by checking the ODBC configuration.  Refer to the Database File field.
  4. To remove the read-only attribute, use Windows Explorer or NT Explorer, click on the file, then use File->Properties, and ensure that the Read-Only box is not ticked.
  5. Close the Explorer.
  1. From the control panel, run the ODBC applet.
  2. Select the Data Source named Race.
  3. Click on Remove.
  4. Confirm that you are removing the correct data source.
  5. Close the ODBC applet.
  1. From the control panel, select Add/Remove Software.
  2. Select The Racing System from the list of software that can be automatically removed by Windows.
  3. Click on Add/Remove
  4. Run setup.exe and follow the instructions provided.

If you encounter problems:

There are no known  problems with the uninstall if you follow the above instructions.  If you have any difficulty at all, no matter how minor, please let us know.  We will fix the problem as soon as possible and upload the changes for you.
